Map one batch of transfers first
List the source and destination plates, volume of each transfer and wells actually used. Frequent full-plate transfers at the same volume are a reason to evaluate a 96-channel workstation. If most work involves a few rows or columns, different groups or frequent volume changes, first compare how an 8/12-channel pipette would handle those steps. These are selection considerations; review them against your own workflow.
| Consideration | 8/12-channel pipette | SC9000 PRO |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer pattern | Commonly used with 96-well plates, processing a row or column at a time. | 96-channel parallel pipetting for whole-plate transfers. |
| What to review | Wells per transfer, number of groups and changes in volume. | How often you transfer a full plate, and the placement of source plates, destination plates and supplies. |
| Operation and setup | Volume range and manual or electronic operation depend on the model. | Manual operation, four plate positions, no programming or electrical power; volume range depends on the configuration. |
Check three things beyond channel count
- Match the range to your transfer steps. SC9000 PRO has 0.5–20 μL or 2–200 μL range options. Do not assume one supplied configuration includes both. List your minimum, maximum and routine transfer volumes before confirming the module.
- Check the exact labware. Provide plate brands, part numbers, formats and tip models. A “96-well” label or similar appearance does not establish compatibility. Review reservoir specifications and liquid-contact materials for your requirements.
- Check the method, not just the plate. Describe unused wells, different dosing volumes, mixing and tip-change steps. For partial-plate work or unusual liquids, confirm the instrument configuration and operating conditions before evaluating the actual method.
Prepare a workflow checklist before requesting a quote
Include plates per batch, wells used, volumes at each step, source and destination plate part numbers and existing tip models. Compare the complete instrument, module, consumable and maintenance-parts configuration, rather than the instrument price alone.
